Why consider Lip Fillers

Lip fillers may assist in:

  • Replacing lost lip volume
  • Enhancing the shape of the lips
  • Giving a balanced look to lips
  • Reducing the appearance of a “gummy smile”

How do lip fillers work?

Lip augmentation refers to injecting the lips with dermal filler, a cosmetic injectable designed to add and restore volume to the skin. Unfortunately, we are unable to specify brand names or mention the ingredients of your chosen lip filler due to Australian advertising guidelines. However, we can tell you that dermal filler is designed to imitate a sugar molecule that is naturally found in the body. This molecule is designed to bind water and regulates the skin’s water balance. When injected back into the lips, this gel-like substance may add volume to the lip area.

In addition to enhancing the lips, many patients choose dermal filler injections to restore volume and definition to their cheeks, tear troughs, chin, jaw, and nasolabial folds.

Objectives of lip filler injections

Considering lip injections? In addition to helping to enhance the volume of your lips, this treatment may offer several other benefits, including:

  • Visible results: Following lip fillers treatment, you may usually notice an immediate improvement in the shape and volume of your lips.
  • Temporary results: If you’re new to the world of cosmetic injections, rest assured that lip filler results don’t last forever, it can be dissolved, or it will soften over time.
  • Add volume: Not only does filler add volume, but it may reduce the appearance of fine lines on the lips and around the mouth.
  • Temporary results: Remember that lip filler doesn’t last forever, they will fade or flatten over time.
  • Enhancement: Lip injections aren’t exclusively for those seeking large lips. We can use small amounts of filler to add the appearance of fullness.

How much do lip fillers cost in Brisbane?

At Inigo Cosmetic, we customise our lip filler treatments for each individual patient. Depending on your natural lip shape and your desired cosmetic results, we may need to inject more or less syringes of dermal filler.

Our dermal lip filler pricing start from $499. However, to receive a detailed cost breakdown, please get in touch to book a consultation at Inigo Cosmetic.

What to expect

Lip filler is a prescribed medication, so you should only see a qualified registered nurse or cosmetic doctor to administer your injections. Given this, you will need to come in for a consultation before any cosmetic injectable treatment at Inigo Cosmetic. Your consultation provides you with an opportunity to discuss your cosmetic concerns and goals, after which your cosmetic physician will assess your natural lip shape and volume to help to determine which filler option is best for you.

Prior to your injections, you may choose to have a topical anaesthetic applied to your lips to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Your cosmetic doctor or nurse will then inject the lip filler beneath the skin using a very fine needle or, in some cases, a cannula. You may experience a stinging sensation or feel a slight pinch as the product is injected, the entire process to take around 30 to 60 minutes.

Your lip filler results

Your lip augmentation (lip filler) results may be visible straight after injection; however, they will usually continue to improve over the following days as the product settles and swelling subsides. Remember that lip fillers are only temporary, and the injected product will eventually degrade in the body. You can expect your lip injection results to last about six to 12 months, depending on the filler used and your own metabolism. However, returning for regular touch-ups may help to maintain your results and over time, you may find that you can go longer between follow-up appointments.

Risks and complications

All cosmetic treatments come with risks and complications. Some of the known risks and complications associated with lip fillers include:

  • Bruising
  • Bleeding
  • Swelling
  • Asymmetrical results
  • Infection
  • Lumps in the lips
  • Over or underfilling, which may require further treatment
  • Changes in skin pigment

In rare instances, the filler may accidentally be injected into the blood vessels instead of beneath the skin, which can block blood flow. This can potentially lead to skin loss and, if the eye is affected, blindness. Therefore you should always have your lip fillers injected by an experienced medical professional who has knowledge on how to avoid such complications or know how to dissolve if this complication occurs.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Lip filler injections are generally treatment for anyone wishing to enhance the appearance of their lips. Most healthy individuals are suitable candidates for lip augmentation, so long as you have realistic expectations of what the procedure can achieve and that you are in good physical and mental health.

However, there some exceptions to this. For example, cosmetic injections are not suitable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. In addition, lip fillers may not be a suitable treatment option for those with allergies to product ingredients, an active skin infection, a recent viral or bacterial infection or who are prone to hypertrophic scarring.

Before undergoing any dermal filler treatment, please let your physician know if you:

  • Have had a COVID-19 vaccination in the last two weeks
  • Have an autoimmune condition
  • Have had recent dental work or have upcoming dental work
  • Have previously undergone rhinoplasty surgery
  • Have a long-haul flight booked in the two weeks following treatment

To prepare your lips for treatment, please ensure that you follow the below instructions:

Two weeks before treatment

  • Avoid excess sun exposure in the treatment area

One week before treatment

  • Do not take any medications or supplements that thin the blood, including aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, omega fatty acids and vitamin E

Five days before treatment

  • Stop using any skincare products that contain AHA’s, vitamin A (retinol), enzymes or scrubs

Three days before treatment

  • Do not exfoliate, wax, or remove hair in the lip area
  • If you are prone to cold sores, speak to your doctor about taking prophylactic medication

Two days before treatment

  • Avoid drinking alcohol
  • Stay as hydrated as possible

Please arrive at your lip fillers appointment wearing no makeup, skincare lotions or SPF in the treated area.

Following lip injections, it is very normal to experience some swelling, bruising, redness, and tenderness in the lip area. However, such side effects are usually mild and should resolve within two weeks.

To assist your recovery, we encourage you to follow the below aftercare instructions:

  • Ice your lips intermittently throughout the following day
  • Avoid heat (such as from hot showers, saunas, and LED light) and vigorous exercise for two days after treatment
  • Avoid any skincare products containing AHA’s, vitamin A (retinol), enzymes or scrubs for two days after treatment
  • Do not scrub or exfoliate the lips for three days after treatment
  • Do not massage the lips for at least two weeks – after two weeks, you can gently massage the area as instructed by your physician
  • Drink two to three litres of water daily to stay hydrated
  • If you require pain relief, please use paracetamol instead of aspirin or ibuprofen
  • If necessary, antihistamines can be taken to reduce swelling

This is a difficult question to answer, considering that pain is subjective, and every patient experiences the treatment differently. However, most patients describe feeling a slight pressure or stinging sensation as the lip filler is administered. Ultimately, the pain felt during treatment will depend on your personal tolerance for pain.

Many patients considering lip injections are concerned by the prospect of noticeable swelling and bruising. Unfortunately, swelling and bruising are typical side effects of the lip filler procedure and usually last for seven to 14 days. Usually, this will peak at around two days after lip fillers treatment, which is why we recommend booking your appointment over the weekend or arranging for a couple of days off work afterwards. However, you can minimise the severity of bruising and swelling by following the recommended before and aftercare instructions.

If you are considering lip augmentation, you may have heard of lip flip injections and wonder how it differs to filler. A lip flip treatment uses anti-wrinkle injections to relax the muscle around the lips, which causes the upper lip to roll outward, creating the illusion of a bigger lip. This can be helpful to patients with a naturally thin upper lip or who struggle with a gummy smile. A lip flip differs from lip filler, which makes the lips bigger by adding volume. If you aren’t sure which lip injection option is best for you, please organise a consultation at Inigo Cosmetic Brisbane.

Dermal lip fillers will not permanently alter the appearance of your lips. The injected product will gradually be absorbed by the body, depending on the filler used and your skin type, lifestyle, and age. Generally, you can expect the results of your lip fillers to last for up to six months, after which you may return to Inigo Cosmetic for top-up treatments.

If you are unhappy with your lip fillers results for any reason, don’t stress – you can have your filler adjusted or removed. We encourage our patients to return to the clinic for a follow-up assessment two weeks after their initial injections to evaluate the results. If required, your physician can inject additional dermal filler to correct any imbalances or create a more dramatic effect. Alternatively, if you would like your results reversed, we can inject an enzyme into the lips that dissolves the product entirely.

Every patient is different, and the right amount of filler for you will depend on your natural lip shape and your desired cosmetic outcome. For natural and gradual enhancement, we usually recommend a single millilitre of filler to begin with. If once swelling has subsided, you still desire a fuller look, we can always add additional product. During your consultation at Inigo Cosmetic, we will discuss in detail how many syringes of filler may be required to achieve your preferred results.

Unfortunately, Australian advertising guidelines prohibit us from publishing the brand names of the dermal lip fillers used in our clinic. At Inigo Cosmetic Brisbane, we use a range of different lip filler products from several well-known brands. If you’d like more information about the products used, we can talk freely about your options during a consultation.
