Dermal Filler Dissolving

Dermal fillers are one of the most popular cosmetic injectable treatments. If you are unhappy with your dermal filler results, you can dissolve them. Dermal fillers are reversible by injecting the enzyme, hyaluronidase (hylase), which dissolves hyaluronic acid, which is the active ingredient in fillers.

Dermal Filler Dissolving Treatment

Prior to your treatment, an anaesthetic cream will be applied to the area to and the hyaluronidase (hylase) is mixed with local anaesthetic to ensure your comfort. Your registed nurse or doctor will then inject a measured amount of the hyaluronidase into the areas with the unwanted filler. After your treatment, you will be monitored for around 15 minutes and provided with an ice pack to relieve any discomfort and to minimise bruising.

The treatment will take approximately 30-60 minutes to complete.

Results may take up to two weeks, and you may need additional dermal filler dissolving appointments, which our experienced injectors will discuss with you to develop a personalised treatment plan.

If desired, additional dermal filler may be injected into the area two weeks after your last filler dissolving treatment.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Hyaluronidase or “Hylase” is generally considered to be a relatively safe treatment unless you are allergic to bee’s or wasp stings, in which case you ay be allergic to the hyalurondiase. A patch test is always peformed before your treatment.

In emergency situations, such as in the event of vascular occlusion, Hylase is necessary to restore blood flow to the area.

Common side effects of hylase may include: swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising, and in rare instances allergic reaction.

Pain is subjective – everybody feels things differently, however most people describe the feeling as a very mild ‘stinging’ or ‘burning’ sensation. At Inigo Cosmetic, we ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible by utilising the use of topical numbing cream and mixing anaesthetic in with the product.

Dermal filler is comprised of hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronidase breaks this hyaluronic acid and the product is metabolised by the body.

Hyaluronidase injections cause the breakdown of hyaluronic acid in the targeted area. As a result, this can also cause the body’s own natural hyaluronic acid to also breakdown. However, hyaluronidase cannot dissolve dermal tissue. Within a few days your body’s natural hyaluronic acids levels will restore.

Our registered nurses or doctors recommend that you wait a minimum of two weeks before injecting more dermal filler into the area.

No, hyalase will not cause blindness. Hyalase is the required treatment protocol to prevent blindness in the event of vascular occlusion (poor blood flow) which is a known complication associated with injecting dermal filler.

There may be slight spreading, however, the injected hylase is usually localised to the area in which it is originally injected.

In Australia, any dermal filler that is comprised of hyaluronic acid can be dissolved. Fillers comprised of silicone or other semi-permanent materials cannot be dissolved.

It can take up to two weeks to see visible results, once swelling and bruising has gone. Occasionally, you may require several sessions to produce your desired results.
