Exion RF Ultrasound Skin Tightening

Signs of ageing, such as fine lines and wrinkles, skin laxity, and a slowed production of hyaluronic acid in the skin, can be treated with a non-invasive approach using radiofrequency (RF) and ultrasound energy.

The Exion Face Applicator can treat the face, neck and décolletage, achieving smoother skin by increasing the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.

What is Exion Face Applicator?

Exion Face combines controlled radiofrequency (RF) and ultrasound energy to treat fine lines, wrinkles and skin laxity on the face, neck and décolletage.

The treatment works by boosting the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid in the skin, which naturally deplete as we age. Over time, the treated skin will become smoother and tighter without requiring invasive treatment options such as surgical facelifts or neck lifts.

It can target deep layers of the skin and can be suitable for even delicate areas of the face.

Treatment areas

Exion Face can treat noticeable signs of ageing, such as wrinkles and skin laxity, even within the deeper layers of the skin. Multiple areas can be treated at the same time if needed. This option can be discussed during your consultation. The face applicator is suitable for the following:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Décolletage

Suitable candidates

Candidates of any age and skin type can be considered suitable for the treatment. You will have a consultation at our Brisbane clinic to discuss your desired results and the personal factors that can determine if the treatment is the right choice for you.

Ideally, candidates will be in good health and have realistic expectations about the results. Exion Face can be a great option for those who prefer treatments that don’t involve surgery, with the benefits of minimal downtime and discomfort.

However, if you have recently had surgery in the area where you want the treatment or if you have specific skin issues or underlying medical conditions, the treatment might not be the best choice for you. You may not be considered suitable for the treatment if you have active implants or devices in the treatment area or very sensitive skin.

If Exion Face is suitable for you, we will discuss a personalised treatment plan to suit your needs best.

What to expect

During a typical treatment session, the Exion Face Applicator is passed over the skin in the desired treatment area to deliver a combination of radio frequency (RF) and ultrasound energy in controlled pulses.

These energy waves effectively penetrate the deeper layers of your skin. Throughout the session, your clinician will monitor the Exion device to ensure that it delivers the right level of energy, according to the details on your personalised treatment plan. You can feel some warmth on your skin as the applicator is placed over the area.

The duration of your treatment session will depend on factors such as the size of the treatment area and your specific treatment objectives. For optimal results, you may need multiple sessions, typically the recommended four. This will be discussed when creating your personalised treatment plan during your consultation.

After treatment with Exion Face, some patients can see results immediately due to temporary skin tightening and improved circulation. Still, the most significant and noticeable results become apparent gradually over one to three months after the treatment.

The treatment prompts the production of new collagen and elastin fibres, which will take time to create tighter skin and reduce the visible signs of fine lines and wrinkles. You may also notice other skin improvements after the treatment; for example, the texture of your skin might become smoother.

For the best outcome, a series of treatment sessions is typically recommended. This regimen often includes about four sessions spaced out over several weeks. This spacing is essential to allow the natural processes of collagen remodelling and cellular rejuvenation to unfold, resulting in cumulative and long-lasting skin tone and texture improvements.

You will be able to resume your daily routine after your treatment. Straight after the treatment, it’s typical for the treated area to appear red or swollen. These reactions generally subside within a few hours to a day. To soothe discomfort, consider applying a gentle, hydrating moisturiser or a cooling gel, as your clinician recommends.

Avoiding direct exposure to sunlight and heat sources during this initial period is advisable, as your skin may be more sensitive than usual. Staying hydrated is essential post-treatment. It’s also a good practice to avoid vigorous exercise or activities that could lead to excessive sweating for at least a day or two after the session.

As your skin recovers, gentle cleansers and mild, hydrating products help nurture the healing skin. Sun protection is paramount, so wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily is essential to shield your skin from potential UV damage that could hinder the healing process.

Everyone’s skin is unique, so the specifics of your aftercare might vary. Consulting with your clinician ensures you receive personalised recommendations tailored to your skin’s needs, helping you achieve the best possible outcome from your treatment.

Side effects and risks

Some individuals may experience mild redness, swelling, or sensitivity in the treated area immediately following the session. However, this will subside and can be managed with some aftercare steps recommended by one of our clinicians.

In some instances, temporary changes in skin pigmentation might occur, leading to either darker or lighter patches. However, these changes are usually temporary and tend to fade over time. Similarly, while uncommon, minor bruising might occur, especially in individuals with more sensitive skin.

Although rare, more severe complications like burns or blisters could arise if the treatment parameters are not appropriately adjusted or if an inexperienced practitioner performs the procedure. To minimise this risk, it’s crucial to undergo the treatment with a skilled and qualified clinician who understands how to tailor it to your needs and skin type. Our team will discuss how these risks will be minimised during your consultation.

Your skin’s response to the treatment can be influenced by individual factors such as skin type, pre-existing skin conditions, and overall health. A thorough consultation with your clinician before the treatment allows you to discuss any concerns, share your medical history, and ensure that the treatment suits your needs.

It is normal to feel some warmth in the treated area as the applicator is passed over the skin, but the treatment is generally tolerable.
