What Is LUMECCA?
Lumecca, developed by InMode, is a breakthrough intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment designed to treat pigmented and vascular lesions. Using photo-thermolysis technology to target specific tissue, Lumecca works to heat and destroy damaged skin cells by delivering a comfortable light treatment. Following just one treatment, patients can experience a noticeable improvement in the health and clarity of the skin.
Following your Lumecca treatment, you can expect to begin seeing results within a few days. For pigmentary concerns, such as sun damage, your skin will take on a visibly clearer, more youthful appearance after one to two weeks. For vascular concerns, such as spider veins, you can expect results within two weeks following the completion of your treatment course.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Lumecca treatments take around 30 minutes to complete, depending on the size of the treated area. Your dermal therapist will provide you with protective goggles and apply a topical anaesthetic to the skin before moving the Lumecca handpiece across the treatment area.
You may experience a warming sensation during your treatment, similar to a light snap of an elastic band. As the Lumecca light waves heat the surface of your skin, the targeted lesions will be pulled to the surface and slough off over the days following your treatment. This process also works to stimulate collagen production, resulting in an overall improvement in the texture and appearance of the skin. Following your treatment, you may experience some skin redness, which should subside within an hour.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
If you have pigmented or vascular lesions on the skin that you wish to remove, Lumecca treatments may be the ideal solution for you. However, if your skin tone is brown or deeply melanated, you may need to have a patch test prior to treatment, as IPL does carry a risk of hyperpigmentation, burning and blistering on darker skin. The best way to determine whether this treatment is right for you is to have a consultation at Inigo Cosmetic.
While many patients experience a noticeable improvement in the appearance of their skin following just one treatment, a series of treatments is usually recommended for best results. We typically suggest at least two treatments, however, this will depend on the severity of your skin damage and the specific lesion targeted.
Lumecca differs from other IPL treatments in that it uses a higher peak power to deliver superior results, meaning that fewer treatments are usually required. In fact, the Lumecca device harnesses up to three times more energy than standard IPL machines. Unlike those other treatments that require four to six treatments to achieve optimal results, Lumecca can complete photo rejuvenation in just one or two treatments.
There is no downtime following a Lumecca treatment, meaning that you are free to resume all regular activities immediately. In the 24 to 48 treatments following your treatment, you may notice that your pigmented spots are darkening. Over the next week, these lesions will slowly flake off, resulting in a more even skin tone. To avoid scarring, refrain from rubbing or picking at these dark spots. When treating vascular lesions, you may notice that your veins change colour and slowly disappear as the body reabsorbs them.
Following your Lumecca IPL treatments, you should avoid waxing, exfoliating or using retinoids on the treated area for at least one week. Treatments will also make your skin more sensitive to the sun: wearing an SPF 30+ or higher daily is essential.
