The Inigo Approach To Scar Revision
Aiming to address scar visibility, our approach at Inigo is to target the various aspects that make a mature scar visible, along with treating the scar’s different layers. This may involve combining multiple modalities. A treatment plan may be discussed with your practitioner to involve a combination of Healite II LED Light therapy, Steroid Injections, Exosomes, RF microneedling, Lumecca IPL and/or home care to address acne scarring, surgical scarring, stretch marks and other types of scars.
At Inigo Cosmetic we have developed specific scar revision protocols which aim to address the visibility and texture of scars and we were recently awarded the 2023 Scar Revision Clinic of the Year for Inmode Australia.

SCAR REVISION INFORMATION
Any surgical procedure or injury involving incisions through multiple layers of skin, fat, muscle, and possibly glandular tissue will leave some form of scar. The degree of scarring may also be influenced by external factors such as age, complexion, genetics, and lifestyle.
For more detailed information, you can explore our comprehensive surgical scarring guide.
Following cosmetic surgery, scars may appear most visible for two to three months, typically taking around 12 to 24 months to fully heal and become less visible.
The healing process can be broken down into three phases:
- Inflammatory Phase (12 hours to seven days): Beginning around 12 hours post-surgery and continuing for approximately seven days, this phase involves the release of growth factors and white blood cells to aid in wound closure and set the groundwork for subsequent phases.
- Proliferation Phase (Day seven to 21 days): During this period, the skin prepares to develop a scaffold for the formation of lasting scar tissue, involving the activation of fibroblasts and the initiation of angiogenesis.
- Maturation & Remodeling Phase (Three weeks to one year): Starting from around week three, the body enters the remodeling phase, rebuilding collagen and reshaping scar tissue. While scars may initially appear reddish and raised within the first three months, they gradually fade and become flatter over time.
This final phase generally presents as the optimal time to begin scar therapy treatments, with the aim of accelerating healing and helping to further minimise scar visibility.
To optimise the healing process of your scars, there are various steps you can take before and after surgery to speed up recovery, reduce the risk of wound complications, and address the appearance of surgical scars. Some of these include:
- Stop smoking
- Reduce alcohol intake
- Eat a balanced and healthy diet
- Stay well hydrated
- Prioritise rest and recovery
- Avoid sun exposure directly over incisions
- Consider products like iS Clinical Sheald Recovery, iS Clinical Super Serum, Silicone gel and Silicone tape
- Begin LED Light therapy within 7 days following your injury or surgery
- Begin scar therapy treatments like Lumecca IPL, Morpheus8 RF Microneedling, Dermapen, Exosomes, and steroid injections.
Results will vary from patient to patient and the type of treatment you undertake. Our scar revision treatments are designed to stimulate collagen & elastin production, reduce inflammation, promote wound healing to address the appearance of scars.
The recommended protocol for each treatment is:
- Healite II light therapy: 4-8 treatments, one to two per week, for four weeks
- Lumecca IPL: 3-6 treatments, spaced every 4-6 weeks apart
- RF Microneedling (Morpheus8 or Exion): 3-6 treatments, one treatment every four weeks.
- Dermapen: 3-6 treatments, one treatment every four weeks.
- Steroid Injections: 1-3 treatments, one treatment every four weeks.
- Surgical scar revision: One treatment
We may recommend combining multiple modalities or treatments depending on the type of scar.
There are several products that we recommend following surgery or an injury that may help address the appearance of scarring.
- iS Clinical Sheald Recovery: We recommend using sheald recovery balm from week 3 to help alleviate dryness, irritation and redness, which can be associated with incisions after surgery.

Super Serum combines 15% L-Ascorbic Acid with a bioidentical copper tripeptide growth factors to help address the look of hypertrophic scars and hyperpigmentation.
