How to address Redness, Sensitivity & Impaired Barriers?
At Inigo Cosmetic, we offer personalised consultations where you can discuss concerns related to skin redness and sensitivity with a qualified practitioner. Redness and reactive skin can develop due to a variety of factors, including a compromised skin barrier, inflammation, environmental exposure, underlying skin conditions, lifestyle influences, or overuse of active skincare. These concerns may present as flushing, irritation, visible capillaries, uneven skin tone, or heightened skin reactivity.
During your consultation, your practitioner will assess your skin condition, medical history, triggers, and treatment goals to determine the most appropriate approach. Based on your individual needs, a tailored treatment plan may be recommended to calm inflammation, strengthen the skin barrier, and improve overall skin resilience. Treatments may include gentle, barrier-supportive medical-grade skincare and carefully selected in-clinic therapies designed to soothe the skin and reduce redness without overstimulation.
We have introduced a redness & sensitivity consult & treatment package which gives you 10% off your products & a free sensitivity facial. Our redness & sensitivity skin consultation may be suitable for those wishing to improve barrier function, soothe the skin and reduce redness

At Inigo Cosmetic, we take a holistic and personalised approach to treating skin sensitivity and redness, recognising that these concerns are often driven by inflammation, a compromised skin barrier, lymphatic congestion, and external stressors. Our tailored treatment plans focus on calming the skin, strengthening barrier function, and improving overall skin resilience.
Treatment programs may combine gentle, restorative in-clinic therapies such as LED light therapy to reduce inflammation and support skin healing, Prin lymphatic therapy to assist lymphatic drainage, reduce congestion, and support detoxification, and Rationale facials to deeply nourish, repair, and reinforce the skin barrier. These treatments are carefully selected and combined based on individual skin sensitivities and triggers, working synergistically to calm redness, improve comfort, and promote long-term skin health.
What is sensitive skin, an impaired skin barrier, and redness?
Sensitive skin is a condition where the skin reacts more easily to internal or external triggers, often presenting as stinging, burning, itching, tightness, or discomfort. It is closely linked to an impaired skin barrier, which means the outermost layer of the skin (the stratum corneum) is not functioning effectively to protect against irritants and prevent moisture loss.
An impaired skin barrier allows increased water loss and greater penetration of irritants, allergens, and microbes, making the skin more reactive and prone to inflammation.
Redness occurs when blood vessels near the surface of the skin dilate in response to inflammation, irritation, or environmental triggers. This can be temporary (flushing) or persistent and may be associated with conditions such as rosacea, dermatitis, or post-inflammatory changes.
These concerns often develop due to a combination of factors, including:
Genetics, which can predispose the skin to sensitivity or conditions like rosacea or eczema
Overuse of active skincare, such as acids, retinoids, or exfoliants, leading to barrier damage
Environmental exposure, including sun, wind, heat, cold, and pollution
Inflammation or skin conditions, such as acne, rosacea, eczema, or post-procedure irritation
Lifestyle factors, including stress, poor sleep, diet, and alcohol consumption
Hormonal changes that can affect skin resilience and vascular reactivity
When the skin barrier is compromised, inflammation increases, triggering blood vessel dilation and visible redness.
Effective treatment focuses on calming inflammation, repairing the skin barrier, and reducing triggers:
1. Barrier-repair skincare
Medical-grade skincare designed for sensitive skin may include:
Ceramides and cholesterol to restore the barrier
Hyaluronic acid and glycerin for hydration
Niacinamide (low concentration) to support barrier function
Soothing ingredients such as panthenol, allantoin, and beta-glucan
Avoiding harsh cleansers, over-exfoliation, and fragranced products is essential.
2. Sun protection
Daily use of a broad-spectrum SPF is crucial, as UV exposure worsens redness and barrier damage. Mineral sunscreens are often better tolerated by sensitive skin types.
3. Gentle in-clinic treatments
When appropriate, treatments may be selected to calm and strengthen the skin, such as:
Soothing facials and barrier-repair treatments
LED light therapy to reduce inflammation
Carefully selected skin-strengthening procedures performed conservatively
Aggressive treatments are avoided until the skin barrier has recovered.
4. Lifestyle and trigger management
Identifying and minimising triggers such as heat, spicy foods, alcohol, stress, and extreme temperatures can help reduce flare-ups.
5. Ongoing maintenance
Sensitive and redness-prone skin requires long-term management. Consistent skincare, professional guidance, and gradual treatment progression are key to maintaining skin stability and resilience.
A personalised consultation allows for accurate assessment of skin sensitivity, barrier health, and redness patterns, ensuring a safe and effective treatment plan tailored to your skin’s needs.
Of course, we offer skin consultation which are $75 and redeemable on treatment or product on the same day.
