Thread Lift Consent

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Thread lifting is a minimally invasive procedure which involves inserting absorbable surgical sutures into the subdermal layer of the skin to which initiates collagen production.

A thread lift is not a substitute for a surgical facelift and will provide subtle and modest changes rather than dramatic results.

TREATMENT AREAS

  • Mid & lower face
  • Under chin and neckline
  • Jawline definition
  • Nasoloabial folds
  • Nose
  • Eyebrow lift
  • Fox eyes (eye lift)

RESULTS

Results are noticeable after the first treatment and will continue to improve over time; the final results are visible after 6 weeks. Results typically last for anywhere between 1 – 3 years.

Factors such as genetics, sun exposure, use of SPF home care products, smoking, water intake, stress, or illness will influence results.

ALTERNATIVE TREATMENTS

Surgical facelift, laser treatments, forehead/brow lift, EmbraceRF, or dermal filler.

UNSUITABLE PATIENTS

  • Patients with excess skin laxity
  • Active skin issue in the treatment area, including cold sores, sunburn, eczema, psoriasis, cancer
  • Active or recent viral or bacterial infection (coughs, colds, flu)
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Keloid scarring
  • Medications: Roaccutane in past 12 months, photosensitive medications
  • Abnormal platelet function or blood disorders
  • Anti-coagulation therapy (Coumadin, Warfarin, Plavix, Aspirin, Lovenox)
  • Allergies to product ingredients including local anaesthetic
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding

RISK & SIDE EFFECTS

  • Temporary unwanted visual side effects may cause dissatisfaction or distress, and include an increase in asymmetry, swelling, lumps, bumps, puffiness, or surface irregularities.
  • Bleeding, bruising, haematoma, damage to underlying structures may occur. In rare cases this could cause continuous problems in appearance, sensation or function and may require medical intervention to treat or may be permanent.
  • There can be puckering/irregularity of the skin which
will usually resolve spontaneously within several days after the treatment.
  • The formation of nodules (lumps) or granulomas (a collection of inflamed cells) which may require removal or other treatment.
  • Bacterial, viral or fungal infections can occur post procedure. Rarely infections can occur months later as biofilm reactions. Treatment in the lip area may trigger recurrence of cold sores which may require treatment.
  • Reaction to the product and/ or local anaesthetic rarely occur but can include an immediate reaction causing swelling, and very rarely life-threatening anaphylaxis.
  • Delayed reactions localised to the skin can cause nodules, lumps or bumps or very rarely sterile abscesses.
  • Dissatisfaction: I understand that with all treatments the precise degree of improvement cannot be guaranteed. The outcome’s subjective nature also means dissatisfaction is a possible outcome regardless of effectiveness of treatment.
  • I understand that the initial treatment of side effects and complications is included in the cost of the procedure and therefore no refund is issued due to any of the above occurring.
  • – I understand that the results are temporary, and several sessions may be needed for optimal results and further expenditure will be required.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The procedure will take around 1 hour to complete and is performed under local anaesthetic in the clinic.

After local anaesthetic is injected into the area, the threads which are attached to a long, thin cannula are inserted in through the skin and trimmed at the desired length. Between 2 and 20 threads will be used depending on the treatment area. The threads will take a few weeks to settle into place and integrate with surrounding tissue. During this time, “puckering” may be noticeable around the incision points.
