Platelet Rich Plasma Consent

WHAT IS BEING INJECTED?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) utilises your own plasma (a component of blood) as a “natural filler”. Plasma contains growth factors, which stimulate new cell growth, tissue healing, and collagen and elastin production in the skin.

USED TO TREAT:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Skin laxity, tone, texture and colour
  • Crepey skin or dark under-eye circles
  • Hair loss
  • Stretch marks
  • Breast implant rippling
  • Vaginal rejuvenation (O-shot)
  • Chronic tendonitis, bursitis and arthritis

RESULTS

Most patients require 3 – 6 treatments performed every 4 weeks. The production of collagen can take up to 3 months to occur and the results can differ depending on the patient. Results can last up to 3 years.

Factors such as home care products, use of SPF, smoking, water intake, stress, or illness will affect results and the frequency of treatments required.

ALTERNATIVE TREATMENTS

Topical creams, chemical peels, laser treatments, facial threads, EmbraceRF, or dermal filler.

  • Flushing of the skin
  • Allergy including anaphylaxis is possible but very rare
  • Swelling in the treatment area

  • The number of recommended treatments is an estimate. There is no guarantee of results and multiple treatments may be needed to achieve a satisfactory result

WHAT TO EXPECT

Blood is drawn from the arm and then spun in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells and white blood cells from the plasma components.

The plasma is then injected into the required area using a very fine needle, or in some instances, a cannula.

The injections may sting for a few seconds, but most patients describe the process as comfortable. The procedure will take around 30–45 minutes to complete.
