Dermal filler is a versatile treatment that can enhance your natural beauty and restore a youthful appearance. Experience an instant confidence boost by adding volume, creating lift, smoothing deep lines and contouring facial features. With minimal downtime and long-lasting results, dermal filler is a popular treatment for all demographics.

What Is being injected?

Due to Australian advertising guidelines, we cannot specify brand names. However, dermal fillers contain a gel-like substance that occurs naturally in the body. When injected back into the body, this substance can improve the appearance of lines, correct volume loss or alter proportions.

A dermal filler treatment can be performed on its own, or combined with other procedures for complete facial rejuvenation:

Results are visible immediately and become optimal one to two weeks after the procedure. Dermal filler will gradually degrade in the body, meaning the results are temporary and typically last for six to 18 months. However, this can vary between patients and does depend on the treatment area and product prescribed. Patients with muscular physiques may require more frequent treatments with more product. Regular treatments will help maintain results, and over time, people may find they can go longer between touch-up appointments.

What to expect

Dermal filler is a prescribed medication, and only a qualified medical practitioner can perform the treatment. The product is injected into the required area using a very fine needle or, in some instances, a cannula. The injections may sting for a few seconds, however a numbing agent may be used for comfort. The procedure will take 30 to 45 minutes to complete.

All cosmetic treatments involve both positive and negative outcomes and carry certain medical risks which will impact your well-being. The known risks and complications associated with muscle relaxant are listed below:

  • Risks of injection: bleeding, bruising, haematoma, damage to underlying structures. This could cause continuous problems in appearance, sensation or function and may require medical intervention to treat or may be permanent in rare cases.
  • Infection: Bacterial, viral or fungal infections can occur post-procedure. Rarely infections can occur months later as biofilm reactions. Injections in the lip area may trigger a recurrence of cold sores, which may require treatment.
  • Reactions: Reactions rarely occur but can include an immediate reaction causing swelling and very rarely life-threatening anaphylaxis. Delayed reactions localised to the skin can cause nodules, lumps or bumps or very rarely sterile abscesses.
  • Lumps, Bumps, Swellings: Temporary unwanted visual side effects may cause dissatisfaction or distress and include an increase in asymmetry, swelling, lumps, bumps, puffiness, or surface irregularities.
  • Skin Changes: The procedure can be are rarely associated with skin pigment changes, the formation of thread veins or new capillaries, and other blemishes. These may be temporary, require further intervention, or may be permanent.
  • Blood Vessel Blockage: In rare instances, the blood supply can be blocked by filler resulting in localised tissue death-causing permanent scarring. In extremely rare cases affecting the eye or parts of the brain can result in blindness or stroke.
  • Occasionally the treatment wears off very quickly.
