Results are noticeable after the first treatment and will continue to improve over time. Regular treatments performed on a monthly basis are recommended. Factors such as home care products, use of SPF, smoking, water intake, stress, or illness will affect results and the frequency of treatments required.

UNSUITABLE PATIENTS
- Active skin issue in the treatment area, including cold sores, sunburn, eczema, psoriasis, cancer

- Medications: Roaccutane in past 12 months, photosensitive medications

TOPICAL ANAETHETIC
What is topical anaesthetic?
A topical anaesthetic is used to numb a small area of the skin to stop you from feeling pain. It is applied to the surface of the skin, not injected. The degree of anaesthetic will vary from person to person.
What are the risks of topical anaesthetic?
Although every anaesthetic has a risk of side effects and complications, topical anaesthetic is generally very safe. Risks and complications may include but are not limited to:
- The local anaesthetic does not work effectively or at all
- Allergic reaction – may appear in the form of a rash, redness, swelling, itching, or blistering
- Pain and bruising at injection site (common)
- Temporary nerve damage, for a few days to months, causing weakness and/or numbness (uncommon)
- Infection at the site of injection (uncommon)
- Damage to surrounding structures – blood vessels, nerves, or muscles (uncommon)
- Allergy to local anaesthetic solution (uncommon)
- Permanent nerve damage (rare)
- Overdose of local anaesthetic (rare)
- Cardiac arrest (rare)
Death (very rare) What are my responsibilities before having topical anaesthetic?
- Notify your practitioner if you have:
- Health problems – diabetes, high blood pressure, infectious diseases, serious illnesses
- Used recreational drugs in the last 72 hours
- Previous problems or known family problems with anaesthesia
- Taking prescribed and/or over the counter medications, herbal remedies and supplements; may include and are not limited to blood thinning medicines, contraceptive pill, antidepressants, diabetic medicines
- Allergies or intolerances of any type
WHAT TO EXPECT
After a thorough skin consultation, active ingredients are applied to the skin. These products have varying levels of strengths and concentrations which are dependent on the areas of concerns and patient’s skin type.
The procedure will take around 30 – 75 minutes to complete, depending on the treatment being performed.
